Death Stranding: Hideo Kojima Teases Gameplay Details, Talks About Norman Reedus’ In-Game Suit

This is a game that is going to be very unique.

At this E3, we’ve been able to learn more and more details about Death Stranding and it certainly seems like it is going to be a unique experience. As Hideo Kojima was a part of the panel of the E3 Coliseum, he provided some more details about what the game will be like, and what his experience was like in working with the different actors.

First of all, we learn that the game is aiming for a feel that is the opposite of what is seen in a game like Super Mario in which there is a sense of great freedom. In Death Stranding, players will have to pay attention to their character’s balance when walking, as he can trip over objects, and can be washed away by the river. When it comes to cutscenes, Kojima discussed how he wanted gameplay to transition into cutscenes very smoothly, and how this was quite challenging to get done.

The influence of cinema is often apparent in Kojima’s cutscenes, but he stated that he does not feel like he is directing a film since he is still working within a digital medium. With that said, it certainly sounds like Kojima had a lot of fun working with the different actors and taking in their inputs as well. Although he is a perfectionist, Kojima stated that the game is a collaborative project between him and the actors. Finally, we also get to learn about the design behind Norman Reedus’ suit in the game. The aim was to make something that looked normal and not heroic, and it was Yoji Shinkawa who came up with this idea.

Death Stranding is set to release for the PS4. Hopefully, we’ll get to know more about the game soon enough.
