Though Bethesda won many fans over at E3 2018 with the announcements of Starfield and The Elder Scrolls 6, there’s still some trepidation over Fallout 76. The post-apocalyptic franchise will be going online for the first time as players team up to rebuild the world, hunt down others, or nuke each other into oblivion. Naturally, a beta for players to test these mechanics out would be welcome, and Bethesda has now confirmed some aspects of it.
First off, Bethesda earlier mentioned that pre-ordering the game would grant purchasers beta access, and that the beta would also come to Xbox One first. In a new forum post, the developer revealed that player selection for the beta (referred to as B.E.T.A.) would be happening in October.
“Starting in October we’ll be selecting people who have pre-ordered the game from a participating retailer to enter our B.E.T.A. We’ll start small and grow over time as we prepare for launch. Be sure you’ve read our F.A.Q., for details on how to redeem your B.E.T.A. code and other important details.”
It was later clarified that everyone who pre-orders from a participating retailer will be included in the beta. There isn’t much information beyond that, especially when the beta will exactly begin. “Things are still changing and being iterated on, so we cannot answer everything yet, but we encourage you to submit your questions.”
Bethesda will take to answering these questions during its Fallout 76 panel at QuakeCon. The convention will take place from August 9th to 12th with DOOM Eternal’s gameplay reveal scheduled for August 10th.
Fallout 76 is out on November 14th for Xbox One, PS4 and PC. Will an October beta offer enough time to iron out any remaining issues, or simply act as a server stress test? Time will tell, so stay tuned for more information.
