Monster Hunter World may finally be out on PC, but for many who play primarily on the Switch and are looking for their own Monster Hunter fix, Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate is almost here. Even better, Capcom has announced a demo for the Nintendo Switch port coming on August 16th, complete with all six Hunter Styles and Prowler abilities.

More information was provided courtesy of ResetEra user Simsamdeo, who said, “There are three hunts available for you to choose from and each represents a different difficulty level (from beginner to veteran). Each hunt is 25 minutes by the way.” That assumption was based on the content that was on offer in the Monster Hunter XX Switch demo that Japan received last year, and sure enough, Capcom confirmed in another tweet that local and online co-op is included in the demo, as the ResetEra user had pointed out in their own response as well.

If that does indeed seem to be the trend, and the upcoming demo is in line with the Japanese demo from last year, then that might clue us into other details about it as well. For instance, another ResetEra user Ridley327 (with input from user Lelouch0612) offered more details on the exact monsters that players might end up hunting. “Preset characters to fight against a neat little twist on the alpha raptor archetype (Great Maccao), one of the big fan favourite monsters that is appearing for the first time in the West in five years (Barioth), and a deeply humbling encounter with a dragon crossed with an F15 (Valstrax).”

Finally, Monster Hunter afficianado Gaijinhunter took to Twitter with a disclaimer of sorts about what the demo doesn’t offer. Basically, if you’re walking into the demo and expecting it to hold your hand even just a little bit, don’t. “Monster Hunter demos are floor demo builds. Don’t expect the game to tell you anything about itself, any tutorial, any hint at what the full game offers. This is a stand-alone build that lets you play and get some hands on with the system and some monsters, like MHW Beta did.”

While it sounds like a pretty high barrier to entry, Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate does offer heaps of content, plenty of variety and the same weapon types that we know and love. It’s out on August 28th for the Switch.
