Professor Layton and the Curious Village Mobile Port Confirmed for Western Release

This reminds me of a puzzle...

Professor Layton and the Curious Village was a charming visual novel meets puzzle game, with gorgeous graphics, and really quirky and compelling characters, all of which came together to deliver one of the best games on the Nintendo DS. Layton was so successful that it spawned an entire series- albeit none of them came close to matching the original in my opinion.

Now, the very first game will be coming to mobiles. Apple’s official App Store account confirmed that Professor Layton and the Curious Village will be coming to iOS. This is presumably a localized version of the Professor Layton and the Curious Village EXHD release that already came out for mobiles in Japan.

What’s curious (heh) here is that the Apple announcement (which doesn’t specify a release window, to be clear) explicitly mentions Nintendo- Nintendo was the publisher of the game on the DS, but it was developed by Level-5, who also own the IP. Is this a mistake on Apple’s part, or is Nintendo working with Level-5 to bring the game to smartphones, as part of their mobile initiative?

Whatever it is, hopefully we find out more soon. Curious Village is way too good a game to be stuck on a 14 year old handheld forever.
