Destiny 2’s Sleeper Simulant Will Receive Reduced Aim Assist

Bungie is acknowledging Gambit complaints for the weapon in a unique way.

Among many things related to Destiny 2: Forsaken, Gambit has been a pretty hot topic. The PvEvP mode essentially allows for two teams to compete in separate instances, mowing down enemies to collect Motes and build Blockers. Eventually, the team that hits the Mote cap will summon a Primeval which is killed, thus winning the round.

However, enemy players can invade your instance, seeing your location through walls and killing you while you’re unawares. To that end, the Sleeper Simulant, an Exotic linear fusion rifle, has been a bane for many players. Thanks to Gambit’s ammo economy and its strong one-shot, body-shot capabilities, it’s easy to wipe out an entire team with the weapon.

Bungie gameplay design lead Josh Hamrick acknowledged player complaints about this, and talked about potentially adjusting the weapon to make sure it wasn’t the only option available. To that end, Hamrick revealed on Twitter what exactly would be changing: Aim assist.

“As mentioned, our goal for Sleeper is to make it AN (awesome) option but not the only option. At this time we are committed to retaining Sleeper’s full power and will be tweaking its ease of use instead by reducing its generous Aim Assist values,” said Hamrick.

So while the weapon will still be good for PvE, it will take a bit more skill for PvP. “Assuming you’re good enough to land your shots, you’ll see no difference in behavior.” Of course, Hamrick doesn’t expect “drastic behavioral differences” from this, but feels that changes like this are better when eased in. “We can always push on it more in the future if it’s still deemed necessary.”

What are your thoughts on Sleeper Simulant’s use in Gambit or on Destiny 2: Forsaken in general? Let us know in the comments.
