Super Mario Odyssey Fan Stacks Up 200 Goombas, And Then Ground Pounds Them All

This is probably the most satisfying ground pound of all time, if I am being frank.

In Super Mario Odyssey, you can use your hat Cappy to “capture” (get it?) multiple objects and enemies in the game, and then control them. One of said enemies you can take possession of is the lowly and humble Goomba. In Odyssey, these Goombas are largely useless to actually capture, unless you have a stack of them that lets you get to places that otherwise may have been inaccessible for you.

But just how high can this stack of Goombas go? Skelux, a developer and tinkerer, hacked the game and built a stack of 200 Goombas in the Cloud Kingdom. This is the most that the Switch can support without crashing, and is so high that the camera literally cannot pan up enough for you to see it all. The game itself seems to be chugging trying to account for all of the Goombas as well.

But, in what is the most satisfying moment of this experiment, Skelux then proceeds to ground pound 200 Goombas. The stack is wobbly, so it falls apart a bit of the way into the ground pound, but it’s still immensely satisfying to see. You can check it out for yourself below.

Super Mario Odyssey is out now, exclusively on the Nintendo Switch. If you’re still playing the game, you’ll be happy to hear that a brand new costume now lets you play as one of the villains in the game.
