The Walking Dead: The Final Season’s New Publisher “Fully Expects” Episode 3 To Launch This Year

"I'll be very disappointed if we can't make that happen," he says.

The Walking Dead The Final Season

After it was announced that Telltale Games would be shutting down, it was initially reported that The Walking Dead: The Final Season would be “cancelled”, and that its final two episodes would not be releasing. Fortunately enough, Skybound Games announced not too long ago that they’d acquired the publishing and development rights of the series, and that they’d be releasing the final two episodes of Clementine’s story after all.

Recently, Skybound Games’ CEO, Ian Howe, and creative director of The Walking Dead: The Final Season, Kent Mudle held an AMA on Reddit, during which Howe stated that since development on the final two episodes had not yet resumed, announcing any exact release dates is going to be impossible, before later adding that regardless, he “fully expects” Episode 3 of the season by the end of 2018.

“I can’t give you a definitive answer at the moment,” he said at first. “What I can say is that the team is not currently working on the game and until we’re back into production, it’s going to be nearly impossible to give an accurate answer. What I can say is that we will announce new dates as soon as we know what they are, there is no reason for us to hold that information back, so it will be public immediately that we can talk about it with confidence.”

“Given that you guys have been so supportive and patient, I’m going out on a limb and will say yes, I fully expect Episode 3 to be this year,” he added later, “and I’ll be very disappointed if we can’t make that happen.”

Howe also stated that development on Episode 3 is already pretty far along, and that the majority of the work was to be done on Episode 4. Back before Telltale’s shuttering, Episode 3 was scheduled for a release on November 6.
