It looks like the release of the Xbox One X has re-energized the console gaming brand, because everything seems to be going fine and peachy for the Xbox brand, and for Microsoft’s gaming division as a whole, per their latest quarterly financial report.
Microsoft reported that gaming revenue grew to $2.738 billion in the last quarter, up by 44% quarter by quarter. Microsoft attributes this growth to sales of Xbox software, as well as services. Xbox Live monthly average users are up to 57 million, representing another increase for the service after a dip to 53 million the last time the numbers were reported.
The big news here, however, is not how Microsoft’s gaming or services revenue is doing as far as Xbox goes – we know it’s doing well, and that’s never not been the case. The news here is that Microsoft shared something resembling hardware numbers for the very first time in a long time, confirming that Xbox hardware revenues are up YoY by a staggering 94%. As you may suspect, they attribute this primarily to the launch of the Xbox One X late last year. This also goes in line with the information regarding the Xbox One we have from yesterday’s NPD report, too.
On the whole, it looks like, in spite of their trials and tribulations earlier in the generation, Xbox and Microsoft are doing great for themselves, which is fantastic news. Hopefully, they continue to do even better going forward.
