Red Dead Redemption 2

Among the many, many qualities that all come together to make Red Dead Redemption 2 one of the most memorable video games this side of, well, the first Red Dead Redemption, one of them is most definitely the game’s excellent music and soundtrack. In an update posted on their official site, Rockstar have now given out some very interesting details on the game’s OST.

Rockstar have confirmed that every single song and score in the entire composition of the game, including all vocals, were composed exclusively for Red Dead Redemption 2. Woody Jackson was once again the composer of the soundtrack, having already had the same role on some other recent Rockstar titles, including the likes of the first Red Dead Redemption, L.A. Noire, and Grand Theft Auto 5. Jackson was aided by a number of prolific figures in the industry for the score as well.

For instance, additional productions and arrangements were handled by Jeff Silverman, while the likes of David Ferguson, Mat Sweeney, David Ralicke, Colin Stetson, and Luke O’Malley all chipped in with additional musical scores and orchestration. David Ferguson also wrote, produced, and performed one of the tracks in the game. Grammy Award-winning Daniel Lanois was responsible for production of all vocals in Red Dead Redemption 2, while the likes of D’Angelo, Willie Nelson, Nas, Rhiannon Giddens, and Josh Homme also contributed with additional vocal performances.

Rockstar also mentioned that Red Dead Redemption 2’s soundtrack features contributions from over 110 artists, which includes the likes of Michael Shuman, Duane Eddy, Arca, and Jon Theodore. They ended the update by saying that more information will be coming soon on the official release of the entire OST.

Red Dead Redemption 2 has been performing phenomenally since its launch last week, and had the biggest entertainment launch with over $700 million grossed in revenue. It also topped sales charts in the UK and in Japan, while Microsoft also confirmed that it was the third most played game on Xbox One over the weekend.
