PS Vita Might Not Have Had Its Specs Cut After All

Posted By | On 29th, Jul. 2011

Remember the report yesterday, which seemingly confirmed that the Vita had indeed seen a spec reduction, with the RAM in the base model in particular having been slashed to 256 MB? Well, it turns out that it might have been inaccurate after all.

Novarama’s Dani Sanchez-Crespo, the same developer who had confirmed the RAM reduction yesterday, while claiming that such a reduction would be ‘good for developers,’ has now backtracked on his comments, saying that his comments were misinterpreted, and that he does not know if there was any RAM reduction.

A Sony Japan source corroborated this, confirming that the Vita’s memory had not been subject to any reductions, and that all such rumors should be approached cautiously.

Correspondingly, Eurogamer was told by a Vita development team that this was ‘the first [they’d] heard of any specs reduction for the Vita.’

“I’d take this with a giant grain of salt,” Eurogamer was told.

The rumor about the Vita’s RAM being halved began in May, when, ahead of E3,  a French source said Sony had lowered the base Wi-Fi Vita model’s RAM from 512MB to 256MB. So far, there has been no official confirmation of this either way.
