“When will Death Stranding release?” is a question that has been on our minds for what seems like forever. We do know that development has been progressing nicely, and that Japanese voice recording sessions for the game are also underway, and now, director Hideo Kojima might be teasing a 2019 release for his long-awaited title.
In Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu (via Twinfinite), a bunch of developers wrote short new year messages- one of them was, of course, Kojima, and his short message is, characteristically enough, vague and ambiguous, but seems to be teasing something quite interesting. “Is 2019 the year of the Whale?” Kojima’s message reads. “Please look forward to Death Stranding!”
Whales, of course, are an imagery that have been associated with Death Stranding since we’ve known about its existence, with a bunch of beached whales being a major part of the game’s reveal trailer back in 2016. As is always the case with Kojima, there’s no knowing what this message is really hinting at, but it does seem interesting, especially in light of the fact that Norman Reedus, who’s playing the protagonist in the game, also suggested that Death Stranding might be launching in 2019.
