Epic Games’ Fortnite is pretty darn popular. With 200 million registered accounts thus far, it probably comes as no surprise that the game’s Battle Royale mode topped a list of the most played Nintendo Switch games in 2018. Granted, this was only for Europe, as revealed by the Switch’s news feature (which Nintendo Everything caught first), but it’s still pretty significant.

After all, Fortnite stands above titles The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey, Splatoon 2, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, FIFA 19,
and even Minecraft. The fact that Nintendo’s first party titles are in the top five confirms their popularity as well. But as NPD analyst Mat Piscatella revealed in a recent tweet, “One of 2019’s biggest market challenges will be meeting the comparable $ volumes set by Fortnite and its impact across all platforms in HW, MTX and ACC last year, particularly in 1H. Won’t be easy.”

Nintendo had already confirmed the popularity of Epic Games’ Fortnite on the Switch in October. The title had been installed on “nearly half” of total Switch consoles till that date. With the Switch currently at 25 million units shipped, that’s at least over 10 million players on that platform alone.

The full list of the most played Nintendo Switch games in Europe for 2018 is as follows:

  • Fortnite
  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
  • Super Mario Odyssey
  • Splatoon 2
  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
