Death Stranding Will ‘Take A While,’ Says Hideo Kojima

So does this mean this might not be the year of the whale?

Death Stranding is one of the biggest, most highly anticipated upcoming PS4 exclusives- but no one outside of Sony and Kojima Productions really has much of an idea when exactly it’ll launch (not that we know of, anyway). That said, there have been plenty of rumblings recently that suggest that it might come out this year itself. Call it speculation, call it teases, call it wishful thinking- call it what you want, but we’ve heard plenty about that possibility recently.

From Sony dropping teases in video montages (this one is kind of a stretch, to be honest), to Norman Reedus suggesting that the game is close to done (a little more solid), to Troy Baker teasing a possible 2019 release (could go either way), people associated with the project have dropped enough hints. Hell, even Hideo Kojima himself did that not too long ago.

But Hideo Kojima does as Hideo Kojima pleases, and now he says the game will “take a while” before it’s ready to be played by the masses. Recently, Kojima promoted an image of Mads Mikkelsen’s (who also plays a major role in Death Stranding) latest film, Arctic, and the plaudits it has been receiving on Twitter, to which Joe Penna, the director of the film, cheekily responded by asking if he could finally play Death Stranding now. In response, Kojima said, “it’ll take a while”, before suggesting that we should all should just enjoy Penna’s and Mikkelsen’s movie in the meantime.

Fair enough, Kojima, we will do that. But also, can we finally play Death Stranding now?
