Death Stranding Pays Tribute To Mary Poppins With One Of Its Characters

If she doesn't say "I'm Mary Poppins, ya'll!" I'll be very disappointed.

Death Stranding director Hideo Kojima is a huge film buff- that’s no secret. The man frequently pays homages and tributes to iconic films and characters in his games through scenes and characters. He’ll be doing so in Death Stranding once again- more specifically, with the character played by Lea Seydoux, who was first revealed in the game’s E3 2018 trailer.

The character, who holds a bag in one hand and an umbrella in another (a weird, sci-fi, splintered-looking umbrella, but an umbrella nonetheless) is one that evokes the iconic imagery of historically famous pop-culture character Mary Poppins. That, as it turns out, is no coincidence, as Hideo Kojima himself recently revealed on Twitter that Seydoux’s character pays tribute to Mary Poppins. Now, if only her character says “I’m Mary Poppins, ya’ll!” Kojima will be able to strike to birds with one stone.

From Jordan Vogt-Roberts to Norman Reedus to Mads Mikkelsen, lots of people have been saying a lot of exciting things about the upcoming game, and in the absence of any new footage or information to chew on ourselves, that’s the only stuff we can obsess over- so check it out through the links. Death Stranding is scheduled to launch as a PS4 exclusive, but doesn’t currently have a release date.
