Marvel is up there as one of the biggest brands in the world right now. Disney could release nothing but Marvel movies for the next few years and still be on top of the world. But that brand hasn’t quite taken off in gaming in the same way. One game that looks to change that is Square Enix’s Marvel’s Avengers. While the game has been unveiled, there’s still a lot of questions about what kind of game it is. Well, one thing it is not is an open world game.

Marvel’s Avenger was officially unveiled at Square Enix’s E3 conference. It showed off the game’s familiar faces of superheroes the movie fans will know. In an interview with Eurogamer, Lead Designer Philippe Therien talked about the game, including the story, how co-cop will work and the type of game it’ll be. When asked if it was open world, he was blunt in saying it was not.

“The game isn’t open world, there’s way too many different places to explore for that to have made sense. We’re looking at having different kinds of regions where you can go from place to place. The Avengers are effective worldwide and we wanted to show that.”

Marvel’s Avengers will release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Stadia on May 15th, 2020. For more information about the type of game it is, you can check it out here.
