Gears 5 Developer Says It’s “Too Early” To Talk About Xbox Scarlett Release

The Coalition remains focussed on current gen hardware for now.

With the next generation of Xbox right around the corner (or close enough, at any rate), and the Xbox One being in its final stretch of active support, the next batch of exclusives and major releases it receives will also most likely be its final. Among those, Halo Infinite, which launches Holiday 2020, has already been confirmed as a cross-gen title, kicking off Xbox Scarlett as it is as a launch title. But what about the second big pillar of Microsoft’s first party with Gears of War?

Gears 5 launches later this year for the Xbox One and PC, but are Microsoft and developers The Coalition designing it with the intention of inevitably bringing it over to Xbox Scarlett when the new console launches? The question was posed to The Coalition head Rod Fergusson by IGN, who, predictably enough, eluded the answer, saying that it’s “too soon” to think about that right now, and that the development team remains focussed on the game’s launch platforms.

“Really focused on Gears 5 right now on what we have now in terms of Xbox One X and One S and One Regular,” said Fergusson. “The Xbox One family of devices. That’s what we’re really focused on right now. I think there’s stuff, as first-party, you could probably make some suppositions about what we would and not do but I think it’s too early to talk about that now.”

You can take a look at the entire interview below.

It seems like something of an inevitably that Gears 5 will eventually be ported over to Xbox Scarlett- but even if it isn’t, the system’s backward compatibility support is going to ensure that it can at least play the shooter, if not have it running on it natively.

Gears 5 is out on Xbox One and PC on September 10. On the Xbox One X, it will support 4K visuals and 60 FPS frame rates. It’s also been confirmed that it’ll be dropping loot boxes and season passes entirely- read more on that through here.
