It’s clear by now that Death Stranding will have several mechanics in place that will allow players to directly affect and change things in the game. For instance, the social strand system, which will allow players to change the terrain in the game’s world through collaborative action. Now, Hideo Kojima has given us another example of players being able to affect change through their actions- more specifically, how those actions will affect NPCs.

Speaking at a recent panel held at the Garage Museum of Modern Art in Moscow (via MP1st), Kojima mentioned a side questline in the game to highlight this aspect of Death Stranding. This questline sees players delivering medicines to an old man, in exchange of which players get certain goods, while the old man also tells stories about the past.

Players can keep coming back to the old man to deliver more medicines to him, but as the campaign progresses, the distance between where the players are and where the old man is keeps on increasing. Whether or not you choose to go back to the old man is up to you, but if you don’t, the man will die due to the lack of medicine.

We recently got a look at a new CGI trailer for Death Stranding, while a launch trailer is also in the works. Death Stranding is out on November 8 for the PS4.
