Silent Hill Revival Is Being Considered, Says Konami

More fuel for the fire.

There’s been a lot of talk about a revival of Konami’s survival horror franchise Silent Hill of late, with a recent report suggesting that the series could be coming back from the dead with two new projects– both of which are actual games, not slot machines. And though it’s always best to err on the side of caution with any unverified leak, a recent statement from Konami themselves may have lent some credibility to these reports.

In a statement to PCGamesN with regard to recent reports, the Japanese publisher said that though they “cannot share anything at this point” they are still “listening to customer feedback and considering ways to provide the next title.”

In addition to that, Rely on Horror also recently reported that as per two of their own independent sources, Silent Hill might be gearing up to come back from the dead, with a new game currently in development.

Other than a recent slot machine that’s best left ignored, Silent Hill has been hibernating for a few years. Silent Hill: Downpour was the last mainline entry in the franchise, coming out all the way back in 2012. That year also saw the release of Silent Hill HD Collection and dungeon crawling PS Vita spinoff Silent Hill: Book of Memories. Neither of them were very well received. 2014 saw the release of P.T., a playable teaser for the cancelled Silent Hills.

Konami has been renewing Silent Hill trademarks for a couple of years. Meanwhile, recently, Silent Hill series’ monster designer Masahiro Ito said he was working on a new project that he was hoping wouldn’t get cancelled. Neither of those things necessarily means much for Silent Hill on its own, but in context of recent developments, one might be tempted to connect those dots.
