It became immediately and abundantly clear when God of War launched nearly two years ago what a masterpiece it was, that it would go down as not only one of the best games of this console generation, but also as one of the greatest games Sony has ever produced. But God of War does have some flaws as well, even though they do not – for the most part – have a significant impact on the overall quality of the game. In this feature, we’ll be talking about a few of these flaws.
SLOW START
God of War differs from its bombastic predecessors in many ways, and the most notable difference is, without a doubt, the maturity with which it tells its story. Part of that maturity comes from the game being willing to take its time with things- it gradually builds momentum and is confident enough to not feel the need to go from 0 to 100 immediately. In the long run, that leads to a better and more engaging story, but for those short on patience, it does present a bit of an issue- that the game starts off quite slow. The first couple of hours don’t see a terrible amount forward momentum for the narrative, and though there’s certainly more than enough of other things to keep players occupied, it does mean that those looking for a riveting story have to be patient for a couple of hours.
