Mortal Kombat has emerged as one of the most popular fighting game franchises out there by a pretty large margin. Mortal Kombat 11, the latest entry in the series, has cemented that with strong sales and critical reception. As you’d expect, the game has had a lot of post-launch support in the form of new fighters, both classics and guests. With the latest being comic book character Spawn (you can read more about that here), we’ve come to the end of the announced support. But it seems that isn’t the true end, according to Ed Boon.

At the Final Kombat 2020 Tournament, the series creator took the stage after debuting the Red Band trailer for the upcoming animated film. While he offered no specific details, he did say there was more to come for the game. He promised lots of surprises down the road.

Considering the huge success of Mortal Kombat 11, it’s no surprise they want to keep this train running. We’ve had datamines that point to new characters since before the first Kombat Pack was revealed, including a wild guest character. We’ll keep you updated.
