Axiom Verge 2 Will Be About 10 Hours Long, Will “Hopefully” Release on All Systems

"If I released 5 platforms simultaneously I would need to delay the release date and maybe not give each platform the devotion I'd like," says Thomas Happ.

Even as the Metroidvania genre has gone from strength to strength in recent years, one of the relatively earlier indie efforts that kicked off the genre’s revivals – Axiom Verge – is still the among the best games it has to offer. Soon, sole developer Thomas Happ will be taking us through another mazy, winding journey with the upcoming Axiom Verge 2But what exactly can we expect to see from the game?

While there’s much yet that hasn’t been revealed, one thing that we can be assured of is that in terms of volume, Axiom Verge 2 will be at at the very least comparable to it predecessor. Speaking recently in an interview with GamingBolt, Happ said that he’s targeting a playtime for the game of “around 10 hours,” which would be roughly the same as the first game.

Meanwhile, we also asked Happ if he has plans to launch the game on any other systems as well – what with it being confirmed to launch as a Nintendo Switch exclusive – and if he is also considering next-gen ports for the game, with the PS5 and the Xbox Series X around the corner. Happ said that he’s hopeful he will be able to put the game out on all available platforms, but said that it launching only on one was a necessity driven by logistical issues.

Hopefully we release on all the systems,” Happ said to GamingBolt. “We just haven’t announced any others yet.  You have to be careful with these things because if I’m like, ‘oh yeah I definitely want to release on platform X’ it may turn out that platform Y really wanted to do a big promotion and now you’ve soured them on that.”

“Also I can only do so much work,” he continued. “If I released 5 platforms simultaneously I would need to delay the release date and maybe not give each platform the devotion I’d like. On the other extreme I could release on one platform at a time but the platforms I don’t release on first may have their feelings hurt. I know a lot of these people personally and it is terrible having to choose.”

Axiom Verge 2 is due out for the Nintendo Switch later this year. In the same interview, Happ also spoke to us about the PS5’s Haptic-enabled controller- read more on that through here. Our full interview with Happ will be going live soon, so tay tuned for that.
