Super Smash Bros. Ultimate director Masahiro Sakurai revealed on Twitter recently that he was now working remotely. As per a translation of the tweet by PushDustin, Sakurai confirmed that he was supervising the project from a distance. “Ultimate is a very high-security project, which makes it difficult to take it out (and work).

“However, we have no choice, but to do it. Everyone, let’s do our best to get through this!!” The shift to working remotely is due to the recent COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic which has affected numerous walks of life worldwide, including game development. Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros. Ultimate saw reports last month about Fighters Pass 2 development being impact by the virus.

That being said, we do know that the next DLC character will be out in June. It will be a fighter from Nintendo’s ARMS, a party arena brawler that launched in 2017 for the Switch. Sales were fairly strong with over two million copies sold in its first year. Which fighter will appear as a guest for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate remains to be seen so stay tuned for more details in the coming months.
