Ubisoft is nothing short of a Goliath in the video game industry. Easily atop of the mountain with company’s like EA and Activision. That’s probably why it makes it so surprising that they just got overtaken by someone else as Europe’s most valuable gaming company. It seems the Polish firm CD Projekt has managed to take the crown by just a hair.

To a lot of players, this may raise an eyebrow because, even with the massive success of The Witcher 3, it seems rather unlikely. But one has to keep in mind that CD Projekt RED, the part of the company overseeing game development, is only one piece of the whole. The firm also runs and controls the GOG storefront, as well as has its fingers in various other things throughout Europe. As reported by VGC, CD Projekt’s current market capitalisation is $8.13 billion USD, which puts it just a hair ahead of Ubisoft’s $8.12 billion.

There’s a lot going on here, of course. Largely, this is one of Ubisoft’s most down period in recent years due to the multiple delays they’ve suffered, and if you compare actual revenue, Ubisoft has the advantage by a fair amount. So, most likely, this will change relatively soon. Even still, it’s quite the accomplishment when you consider the output between the two. CD Projekt RED is hard at work on Cyberpunk 2077, which is sure to be one of the biggest games of the year.
