The recently released The Wonderful 101: Remastered was a big step for PlatinumGames, because it represented the studio’s first step into self-publishing, an area it has been looking to expand into for a while. And as you might imagine, this is the first of many such projects, with Platinum already looking ahead to more self-publishing projects in the future.

In a recently posted update blog on the official Platinum website, the studio’s CEO and president Kenichi Sato remarking that the studio is now looking forward to self-publishing more games in the future, before adding that that doesn’t mean they will stop working with other publishers entirely (which is something Platinum has said before as well).

“We’re already thinking about self-published games to come,” Sato wrote. “But don’t take that to mean we’re going to stop working with other publishers, too! That will continue as well.”

PlatinumGames are currently working on the Hideki Kamiya-directed Project G.G.which they will be self-publishing as well. Meanwhile, at the same time, they’re also working with Square Enix and Nintendo on Babylon’s Fall and Bayonetta 3 respectively. They’re still yet to make their fourth and final Platinum 4 announcement.

While The Wonderful 101: Remastered was crowdfunded via Kickstarter, the studio has said that that’s not necessarily the route they will take for future self-published games. As for what they could be working on for the future, they recently opened up a new studio with a focus on live service products, and have also expressed interest in expanding beyond the action genre.
