Monster Hunter has become a hugely important franchise for Capcom over the last decade or so, and with 2018’s World, it became even more so. Early on, the series found its success on the PSP with multiple entries, following with it continued to capitalize on that audience with the 3DS. Following the launch of World though, it seems Capcom are now ready to focus on the console market- but does that mean there’s no hope for another handheld release any time in the near future?

That might not be entirely true. During a recent Q&A with investors, Capcom said that they do indeed have plans to develop a new game in the series for younger audiences- more specifically, “junior and senior high school students.” They also said, however, that they have no plans to bring Monster Hunter World to the Switch.

“Currently, we are not planning to deploy Monster Hunter World on the Nintendo Switch,” the company said. “We are planning to develop a Monster Hunter that can be enjoyed by junior and senior high school students, and look forward to future developments.”

In January 2018, Capcom commented that Monster Hunter World couldn’t be done on the Switch, and that they had plans to develop other games in the series specifically for the system. So far, they have released Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate for the Switch, which was an HD expansion of a 3DS game.
