Dying Light 2 Post-launch Support Will Be Similar to the First Game – Techland

"We have new ideas popping up almost every day," says lead game designer Tymon Smektała.

Dying Light 2

Dying Light suffered a troubled launch (to say the least) when it first came out in January 2015, but has only gone from strength to strength since then. Not only did Techland manage to fix it with several updates, they also continuously added to the game with multiple expansions and DLC, including the upcoming Hellraidwhich will release more than five years after the base game launched.

That kind of extensive post-launch support is rare to see, but it seems Techland have every intention of continuing that with the upcoming Dying Light 2. Speaking to GamingBolt in a recent interview, Dying Light 2 lead game designer (and producer on the game game) Tymon Smektała said on top of being “full of content” at launch, the game will also receive plenty of post-launch support, just like its predecessor has, which is something the developers have emphasized previously as well.

“Of course, this is precisely the plan,” Smektała said when asked if Dying Light 2’s post-launch support will be as prolonged as the first game’s. “Dying Light 2 is already full of content that we want to have delivered on the release day. But we’re also planning to support the game for a long time after that, like we did with Dying Light – we have new ideas popping up almost every day. We know that our community is used to that and, as always, we will do our best to provide them with an unforgettable experience.”

We also asked Smektała if there’s any word on when exactly Dying Light 2 might launch, but he didn’t say anything specific in that regard. He said, “My lips are sealed. There’s a great team working on the communication about the game and I don’t want to spoil their work for them.”

Techland have previously confirmed that they’re developing Dying Light 2 as a cross-gen title. It was originally supposed to released in Spring 2020, but was delayed indefinitely earlier in the year.

Reports emerged in May that the game was suffering development issues, but later that month, Techland mentioned that it was in its final stretch of development. Techland recently also cut ties with writer Chris Avellone following allegations of sexual harassment.
