Steam owners will need to repurchase the second game on Epic Games Store to transfer progress.

Hitman 3

IO Interactive has released an extensive guide on transferring one’s progress from Hitman 1 and 2 into Hitman 3 when it launches later this month. While the process seems straightforward enough for console players, PC players have a few problems. First off, though your progression from Steam to Epic Games Store, you’ll need to own the first two games or their Access Passes on the latter.

In the case of Hitman 1, anyone who purchases or pre-orders Hitman 3 on the Epic Games Store will receive the Hitman: Game of the Year Access Pass in the first 10 days. If you claimed Hitman 1 for free on the storefront, then you can upgrade it to the GOTY Access Pass at any time once Hitman 3 has been purchased. However, Hitman 2 isn’t available on the Epic Games Store.

So, you’ll need to purchase either the Hitman 2 Standard Access Pass or Hitman 2 Gold Access Pass from the store to carry progress over. Both will be discounted by 80 percent for 14 days after Hitman 3 launches and will see regular discounts. But if you purchased both titles on Steam already, then you’ll need to drop a bit more cash on Hitman 2 again.

Another important thing to note for all platforms: If you play Hitman 3 first and then choose to carry over progress from the previous titles, all of your progress with the former will be lost. The best way, then, is to transfer progress before playing the third game.

Hitman 3 is out on January 20th for Xbox One, PS4, PC, Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and Stadia. IO Interactive also confirmed that the cloud version would launch on the same day for Nintendo Switch.
