Animal Crossing: New Horizons And FIFA 21 Top Germany Sales For 2020

Both titles topped 1 million sales in the region.

Animal Crossing New Horizons - Turkey Day

Looking back at the sales of 2020 has largely been a familiar affair. The titles that you expect to top the charts did, the evergreen titles that has been selling steadily are still selling steadily, and so on and so forth. However, it seems that one title has stuck out more than maybe expected regardless of the region. Animal Crossing: New Horizons took the franchise to new heights through Europe and the US, and it seems Germany is no exception. It joins an old favorite at the top of the sales for last year.

Game.de reported their monthly sales awards and confirmed that Animal Crossing: New Horizons passed 1 million sales in the region. The only other title to do so is FIFA 21, EA’s juggernaut football title, when it passed that number in November 2020. These are based on sales data from GfK, which Nintendo does not share digital sales with. Between that and being on a single platform, it shows how impressive a feat it ultimately was.

Other notable sale milestones was Cyberpunk 2077 selling over 500,000 despite releasing late in December and also not sharing digital numbers with GfK. The Last of Us Part 2 and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla joined 2077 in that same bracket, while Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales passed 200,000, and to round out the awards 51 Worldwide Games, Just Dance 2021 and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity all passed the 100,000 mark (big thanks to ResetEra user DarkDetective for translating).

Animal Crossing: New Horizons has been something of a sales beast ever since its launch last year. It was announced the game had surpassed 26 million units sold as of November 2020, meaning it’s probably closed in on, if not surpassed, the 30 million mark by now. It managing to be up there with the FIFA series in European markets is quite something.
