For all the controversy that it faced at launch, CD Projekt RED’s Cyberpunk 2077 still proved extremely successful. SuperData’s report on the worldwide digital games market for December 2020 stated that 10.2 million units were sold digitally (with 80 percent of total sales being on PC). This helped set a new record for the highest monthly digital revenue with $12 billion earned last month.

It’s worth noting that while digital refunds weren’t factored in, the firm’s data found that they didn’t “substantially affect the game’s aggregate sales.” Sales were up 15 percent over the previous year with consoles seeing a 16 percent increase. PC revenue saw the highest jump with a 40 percent increase year-over-year.

CD Projekt reported that over 13 million copies of Cyberpunk 2077 were sold as of December 22nd, even with refunds factored in. It’s somewhat interesting that digital sales on PC are so high. The developer indicated before launch that pre-orders were overwhelmingly digital at 74 percent but the overall split of pre-orders was 59 percent on PC versus 41 percent on consoles.

In the meantime, patch 1.1 is live, bringing numerous bug fixes and optimizations to all platforms. Patch 1.2 is also in the works while the developer continues to gather feedback on bugs.
