In just a couple of months, we’ll manage to get our hands on Resident Evil Village, the next mainline installment in Capcom’s survival horror juggernaut. The game is hotly anticipated and coming to a variety of platforms, and we’ve seen quite a lot about it so far. The game’s director also wants us to know that the horror is still very much there in the survival horror.
If you’ve watched just about any of the footage Capcom has shown for the game, you’ll notice the very obvious influence of Resident Evil 4 on the title. Well, despite that, director Morimasa Sato was interviewed in the latest edition of Edge (April 2021, Issue 356) and promised there was lots of horror and scares to be had. Most of it is simply being saved for later, which goes along with early statements that we’ve seen so far, that what we’ve seen of the game is only from a portion (thanks to Wccftech for transcribing the below).
“As you know, one of the central themes of the Resident Evil series is horror or fear, and I would just warn you not to take anything you’ve seen so far as an indication that you can relax in terms of horror content! There are plenty of intense and horrifying scenes in the game, but we’ve chosen to leave those for you to experience by yourself.”
Resident Evil Village will release on May 7th for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One and PC.
