Stadia’s Head of Product Has Left Google

Another nail in the service's coffin.

Google Stadia

Google has a long history of abandoning projects that start out with a lot of pomp and ambition at the drop of a hat, and sadly, one can’t help but look at Stadia and feel like it’s doomed to join that long list. Earlier this year, Google shut down all first party development for Stadia, stating that they were shifting gears and would instead be focusing on it solely as a cloud-based platform for third party games. Of course, that included several high profile departures- and we just got another one of those.

The Information recently reported that John Justice, vice president and head of product at Stadia, had departed from Google. The report was confirmed not long afterward, with Google saying in a statement that Justice had indeed departed from the company. “We can confirm John is no longer with Google and we wish him well on his next step,” Google said in a statement to 9to5Google.

Not long after shuttering its first party efforts, Google said that Stadia would be seeing the release of over a hundred games in 2021. Since then, the likes of Outriders, Judgment Remastered, Resident Evil 7, and Disco Elysium – The Final Cut have launched for the cloud service. Resident Evil Village is launching in a couple of days.
