The Medium and Layers of Fear developer Bloober Team and Konami of Metal Gear Solid and Silent Hill fame have entered into a strategic cooperation agreement. As revealed by the developer, the agreement will see the two companies jointly developing “selected content” and exchanging knowledge.

Bloober Team president Piotr Babieno commented that, “It is a historic day for me and the culmination of several years of our work. The fact that such a renowned company as Konami has decided to strategically cooperate with the Bloober Team means that we also joined the world leaders in gaming and became an equal partner for the leading players in this market.”

Konami’s president and representative director Hideki Hayakawa added, “We have been providing unique entertainment content and ways to enjoy it through the use of information technology. In the digital entertainment industry, significant changes in the business environment are expected in the future. We look forward to combining Bloober Team’s and our respective characteristics and strengths to create high-quality contents.”

While it’s unassuming enough, the implications of this agreement fairly significant. A reboot for Konami’s Silent Hill franchise has been rumored for a while now following the shelving of Silent Hills. It was later reported that multiple new titles were in development with Bloober Team rumored to be working on (while a “prominent” Japanese developer works on another). Following the release of The Medium, the developer stated that it had been working for over a year on another horror title with a “very famous publisher” so this just adds more fuel to the fire.

Of course, we’ll have to wait for an official announcement which could still be a ways off. Stay tuned for more details in the meantime.
