Kojima Productions boss Hideo Kojima recently took to Twitter on the occasion of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater‘s 17th anniversary to share stories about the game’s development, as well as give some insights into what exactly went into the making of the game. Check out the series of tweets below.
Kojima shares details about the song “Way to Fall”, and reveals that the song is meant as an expression of not only the relationships between The Boss and Naked Snake, but also Big Boss and young Snake. He also showcases a real-world Alligator Cap, which was used for filming as well as promotional events. Kojima also talked about how the camouflage was a big part of the game, and how the team went about making both it and face paint fashionable.
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, even 17 years later after its launch, pretty well specifically in the gameplay department. It uses its jungle setting to great effect, and much like previous entries in the series, has an emotional and layered narrative, as well as dynamic gameplay.
Leaks have suggested that a ground-up remake of Metal Gear Solid 3 is in the works at Singapore-based Virtuous. Read more on that through here.

When I heard that MGS3 is celebrating its 17th anniversary, I remembered many things. I used to listen to "STARSAILOR" a lot back then. I found a part of it in the warehouse. I listened to "WAY TO FALL," which was also used for the ending, for a while. pic.twitter.com/LBb0pvOaYc

The album was their first "LOVE IS HERE". I like this first one best. I also like "POOR MISGUIDED FOOL". I also went to a live show with Tozin.— HIDEO_KOJIMA (@HIDEO_KOJIMA_EN) November 20, 2021
This song is actually played at the ending. It is not only a song given from The Boss to Snake. As you can see from the lyrics, it was adopted by Big Boss as a song to think about the feelings of young Snake. https://t.co/aQkHzjmfm6

Had few problems that I had to locked myself out to finish writing scenarios of MGS3 in one go. When it was finally finished, I stopped by a CD store in Ginza to reward myself and happened to listen to STARSAILOR.

There are different types of crocodiles, such as crocodile, alligator, and gavial. The one I like is the Indian Gavial, which has a narrow mouth, so I had a Gavial crocodile appear on the screen. https://t.co/uh0wRpiJWy— HIDEO_KOJIMA (@HIDEO_KOJIMA_EN) November 20, 2021

Today, people search Google for everything. For example, for the rain in MGS2, the staff used a handycam during a typhoon to take reference images. The seabird droppings on the lens were made by shooting and collecting bird droppings on the windshield of a car.— HIDEO_KOJIMA (@HIDEO_KOJIMA_EN) November 20, 2021

A STARSAILOR song. I looked at my Walkman and saw that it had the albums up to the 5th album. And the OST of "MGS3". I don't think I have any singles on it. I'm going out for a walk, so I listen to my "best of" albums. "Way to Fall" is on the "best of" list. pic.twitter.com/balU4V7TL2

I told my military advisor about this, and he predicted that tactics in war zones after 9/11 would shift from CQB to CQC, so we incorporated that.— HIDEO_KOJIMA (@HIDEO_KOJIMA_EN) November 20, 2021

So, all her CQC scenes are real. I heard that the stunt person playing the other role had a very hard time.— HIDEO_KOJIMA (@HIDEO_KOJIMA_EN) November 20, 2021
By the way, the shadowgraph sequence in the title roll at startup, where the enemy soldier is repeatedly knocked to the ground by CQC, is played by the same actor who played Raiden in MGS2. https://t.co/V3nnYyZHdc
