Rare’s upcoming Everwild is certainly one of the more anticipated games currently in development, although reports surrounding its development haven’t been positive as of yet. Announced way back in 2019, Rare hasn’t shown any real gameplay yet, and according to VentureBeat journalist Jeff Grubb, there is a pretty good reason behind it.

Speaking in an XboxEra podcast last week, Grubb spoke about how the development of the game is “a real mess” right now. According to Grubb, developers who are working on the game also don’t have much idea about what’s really going on with, and they are still figuring things out. Additionally, he also said that while Microsoft never publicly acknowledges the severity of issues regarding Everwild‘s development, the reports surrounding it aren’t as overstated as Microsoft has suggested.

Everwild is a real mess,” Grubb said (as transcribed by Pure Xbox). “They try to talk diplomatically about it when they’re in public, like ‘people hear things about the creative director leaving and things getting rebooted and that’s overstated’ — it’s not that overstated. They’ve rebooted that thing and they don’t know exactly what the state of it… they are still figuring that out, and it’s a mess.”

“This is not me just using colourful descriptions — the people working on that game don’t really know what’s going on with that game. That’s how much of a mess it is right now.”

Everwild creative director Simon Woodroffe left Rare in October of 2020, following which the game’s development was supposedly rebooted. The team also recently hired Alien: Isolation lead designer Gary Napper- to read more on that, click through here.
