While Path of Exile players enjoy the new Siege of the Atlas expansion and Diablo 4 is a ways off, Crate Entertainment’s Grim Dawn has achieved a new sales milestone. It’s sold seven million copies since releasing in February 2016 after having a Kickstarter campaign in 2012 and entering Steam Early Access in 2013.
Grim Dawn is set in the world of Cairn which has suffered catastrophic devastation following the conflict between the Aetherials and Chthonians. As a formerly possessed survivor, you embark on a journey to defeat these cosmic horrors. While having multiple different classes (referred to as Masteries), players can also take on secondary classes for even more complex builds.
Crate Entertainment has released two big expansions after the base game’s launch – Ashes of Malmouth and Forgotten Gods, each providing new regions, quests and Masteries along with their own storylines. There’s also the Crucible DLC which adds a wave-based survival mode. Grim Dawn is currently available for PC with the Definitive Edition recently launching for Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
6 years ago today, Grim Dawn left early access to become one of the best rated ARPGs of all time.
7 million copies of the game and DLCs later, it's time to blow out some candles again.
