Gundam Evolution, the online 6v6 multiplayer game developed by Bandai Namco Online was originally announced for PC, is finally heading to PlayStation consoles and Xbox consoles this year. Ahead of a network test planned from April 7th to April 12th, the developers have shared more info on the upcoming title via a recent livestream.
As reported by 4Gamer (via Siliconera), the game is a hero shooter, with each Mobile Suit having their own ability and weapons. There will be three main modes: Point Capture on the “AA Gun Fortress” map, Domination on the “Lunar Communications Base” map, and Destruction on the “Mining Quarry” map. These modes and maps will be available to play during the planned network test.
At launch, the game won’ support cross-platform play, however, players on the same console ecosystem will be able to play with each other. Additionally, there will also be a battle pass every season for the shooter, while a loot-box style system, called “Supply Pod”, will let players pay a fee to gather random items and cosmetic unlocks. The customization system for the game will feature skins for the Mobile Suits, weapons, and accessories, such as charms, emotes, player icons, environmental sprays, and special victory screens. None of the customization options will have any effect on the gameplay.
The developers have also shared a look at two new Gundams who will be joining the already confirmed twelve suits, bringing the roster of playable mechas to 14. Unlockable through gameplay or by paying a fee after launch, the MSA-002 Marasai (from Zeta Gundam and Gundam Unicorn) and GN-001 Gundam Exia (from Gundam 00) are joining the game, and both of them will be playable during the network test, too.
Marasai comes armed with heavy Fedayeen Rifle and Sea Serpent grappling weapon and can deal high damage to single targets, or use the grapple to immobilize enemies. Its G-Maneuver uses the Sea Serpent to shock a large area, stunning enemies.
Exia is a highly agile, close combat-focused Mobile Suit packing a GN sword, and can quick-step dodges. Its G-Maneuver, the Trans-Am mode, enhances its performance, allowing continuous usage of quickstep, and changing the GN Sword attacks to use the GN Beam sabers.
Gundam Evolution is slated to release worldwide for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S sometime in 2022.
