The Last of Us Part 1 Won’t Let You Crawl, Dodge, or Go Prone, According to Leaked Images and Clips

While the game does sport various technical and accessibility improvements, it seems the original release's gameplay is being left largely unchanged.

The Last of Us Part 1

UPDATE: Baker confirms that he’s now deleted all of his tweets.

Original story follows:

Unfortunately for Naughty Dog, the studio has a lot of experience dealing with leaks related to The Last of Us, and it currently finds itself in that situation again. A recent leak of the upcoming The Last of Us Part 1 showcased some new gameplay footage and claimed that the game didn’t have any major gameplay improvements over the original release, contrary to what many have assumed. Now, more leaks have emerged, and they seem to align with that.

XboxEra co-founder Nick Baker recently took to Twitter and shared a bunch of new images, clips, and details on The Last of Us Part 1. A little bit of combat gameplay footage is shown, and while the game does seem to sport the same UI as The Last of Us Part 2, it doesn’t look like any of its new mechanics, such as going prone or crawling, have been implemented in the remake.

One area where the game does seem to have made some notable improvements is with weapon workbenches, which do look a lot closer to The Last of Us Part 2, with similar animations and Joel bolting components on to weapons as he modifies them.

Meanwhile, some new off-screen images and screenshots also reveal new details. As previously leaked, it seems the game does indeed have two graphics modes- Fidelity (4K/40 FPS) and Performance (Dynamic 4K/60 FPS). Support for HFR and VRR is also seemingly confirmed. There are also additional options like a gore filter, adjusting camera shake and film grain, and more.

A controller layout also seems to confirm some interesting details that, given all the recent debate about whether or not The Last of Us Part 1 is a cash grab, will be disappointing to many. It doesn’t look mechanics like dodging or, as mentioned earlier, going prone are implemented in the remake, though it does look like there’s a dedicated jump button now, unlike the original. Baker does claim, however, that the game has gyro aiming, so there’s that.

Finally Baker also says that based on what he’s been told, all of this leaked content is from “the most up to date” build of the game. Whether or not that means it’s the final build is unknown (even though the game has gone gold, Naughty Dog is obviously going to continue to polish it up until launch), and there’s also the off chance that there are things in the final game that aren’t part of this build.

Naughty Dog recently confirmed that it’d be sharing new details on the remake (in an official capacity) before its release, so hopefully we won’t have to wait too long on that front.

The Last of Us Part 1 launches on September 2 for PS5. A PC version is also in the works.
