Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic - Remake

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic – Remake was officially announced by Aspyr Media in September last year, and the project was confirmed at the time to be in early development, indicating that it was a ways off from launch. Now, it seems that launch is going to be even longer away- or worse.

A new report by Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier reveals that Aspyr Media has put Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic – Remake’s development on hold. Internally, the project has been indefinitely delayed, and apparently, Aspyr will now look for new contracts and development opportunities as it tries to figure out how to move forward with the remake.

As per Schreier’s report, a vertical slice of the game was finalized on June 30, but though the development team was happy with how it had turned out, it ended up not going down well with studio leadership, possibly due to a disproportionate amount of money being pumped into the demo’s development, leading to fears of production not being sustainable. Two design leads on the project – design director Brad Prince and art director Jason Minor – were also abruptly fired.

The report claims that when development on the remake began, Aspyr intended to have it out by the end of 2022, though now, the game’s development team considers 2025 a much more realistic target. Some at Aspyr also allegedly believe that Saber Interactive – which was confirmed earlier this year to be providing development support on the remake – will take over the project as its lead studio.
