Nearly two years on from its launch, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla – a game that was already dauntingly massive and overflowing at content when it came out – has received a steady stream of new content, and though that stream will soon be stopping, it looks like it still has a couple more major drops to deliver. One of these is Forgotten Saga, a free roguelite mode that was announced earlier in the year.

Ahead of its launch later in the Summer, Ubisoft has released a lengthy new video detailing Forgotten Saga that gives a lowdown on what to expect. Stepping into the shoes of Odin once again, players will find themselves in Niflheim, where you’ll have to overcome a number of challenges. Throughout the four regions of the realm, there will be plenty of secrets to uncover (many of which might grant you with useful gameplay buffs), and more powerful gear to find and tinker your build with. What weapon you use will vary with each run, but interestingly, your gear will carry over across runs.

Forgotten Saga is doing some interesting things with its design as well. From the looks of it, it’s placing quite an emphasis on branching paths that don’t allow backtracking, forcing players to make decisions about how to progress forward. Meanwhile, there’s also a risk/reward factor involved in other decisions, like whether you want to push straight ahead or if you want to explore an area further and risk losing health against more enemies in order to look for better loot.

The video also goes over things such as skill unlocks and overarching progression, bosses, side quests, and more. Check it out below.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Stadia. Ubisoft will be talking about the future of the Assassin’s Creed franchise at its Ubisoft Forward event in September, which will likely entail Assassin’s Creed Infinity and the rumoured Assassin’s Creed Rift.
