Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic Remake

The Embracer Group announced multiple acquisitions today, including Middle-Earth Enterprises, giving it control over The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit and other Middle-Earth works by J.R.R. Tolkien. It also released an interim financial report for the Q1 fiscal year 2023, detailing sales from April to June 2022. When speaking about upcoming releases, it mentioned that one of its triple-A projects had “transitioned to another studio within the Group.”

“One of the Group’s AAA projects has transitioned to another studio within the Group. This was done to ensure the quality bar is where we need it to be for the title. We are not expecting any material delays for the title based on this transition.”

Said project could be Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic – Remake, which was in development at Aspyr Media. Originally slated to release in 2022 for PS5 and PC, it was reportedly delayed internally for an indefinite time. Design director Brad Prince and art director Jason Minor were also allegedly fired.

Sources at Aspyr believed that Saber Interactive would take over as lead studio (after previously providing support for the remake). That may have been what happened but considering the original team believed 2025 to be a realistic release window, it may still be a while. We’ll have to wait for more details so stay tuned.
