Square Enix and Soleil have released new details and screenshots for Valkyrie Elysium, the upcoming sequel in the Valkyrie Profile series. As Valkyrie traverses Midgard, she will meet various characters, including Armand, a human who’s searching for something but doesn’t know what. There are also various Einherjar who fight alongside Valkyrie, helping in combos and adding their elements to her attacks.
These include Kristoffer, the former princess of South Lucarda who is an expert with the spear, and Taika, a former Guardian who wields magic. In battle, collecting blue souls and items fills the soul gauge for summoning Einherjar. When an Einherjar is summoned, their elements are added to Valkyrie, even changing the color of her body.
Divine Arts can also be discovered from scrolls in treasure chests. Filling the Arts gauge, either from items or by hitting combos, allows them to be used. Divine Arts even become stronger when summoning an Einherjar with the corresponding element. Some of these include Fire Storm for generating a storm of fire under an enemy; Lightning, which fires a lightning bolt that can also damage nearby foes; Ice which fires five shots of hail; and more.
Valkyrie can also use the Soul Chain, a grappling hook for both reaching areas that are out of the way and closing the distance on enemies. For weapons, two can be equipped at one time and swapped depending on the enemies fought. They can be levelled up for more attack power and/or new attacks, along with being able to attach offensive or defensive runes.
Weapons revealed thus far include the straight sword Alfodr, which Valkyrie starts with; the spear Balegyr; the rapid Bolverkr, which offers high attack speed; and the double-edged spear Herteitr which can be thrown at enemies. If you’re looking to practice any of these, there’s a training ground Vingolf where previously defeated foes can be summoned and fought.
Valkyrie Elysium releases on September 29th for PS4 and PS5, with the PC release coming on November 11th. A demo was discovered on the PlayStation Network backend so we may receive one before launch. Stay tuned for more details in the meantime.
