More "exciting play-focused progression systems" and "interesting" Challenges are also planned, says executive producer Jared Neuss.

Overwatch 2

Overwatch 2 has done well since going live in October, bringing in over 35 million players within the first month. There’s been plenty of feedback regarding the monetization, though. Lack of cosmetics earned by playing the game, Battle Pass issues, and more are just the start.

Executive producer Jared Neuss spoke about plans to address this in future seasons. “I could say a lot here, but I think a good place to start is saying that we aren’t completely satisfied with how everything feels right now. There’s a lot we like about it – knocking out a bunch of daily/weekly challenges or getting something new for a hero you love can feel great! But we also recognize that today’s experience has the opportunity for improvement that we need to focus on.”

From Season 2 onwards, each event will have a skin that players can earn by playing “in addition to the other cosmetic rewards we already offer.” The Twitch drops programs will continue providing skins and other “in-game goodies” by watching streamers. For Season 3 onwards, the team is looking at some Battle Pass changes, more “interesting” Challenges and “more exciting play-focused progression systems.”

While certain things are being discussed soon, others may take longer. Specific details on changes weren’t provided because, as Neuss notes, “Sharing plans before they’re finalized is risky. Development on a live game like Overwatch 2 requires constant juggling of urgent player needs, long-term ambitions, and live issues. It’s easier and safer to talk about the work once it’s nearly done and ready to deliver. That said, I think sharing our thoughts early is the right thing to do so we can create a better dialogue between the development team and the community.”

Overwatch 2’s second season begins in December and adds a new Tank hero, Ramattra, to the game. Free players still need to grind to Tier 55 in the Battle Pass to unlock him, but purchasing the Premium Battle Pass for $10 still provides instant access. Stay tuned for more details, and in the meantime, check out the latest update here.
