Sony Talks About the Design Process of PS5’s DualSense Edge in New Video

A new video dives into how Sony designed what's being billed as PlayStation’s first-ever high-performance ultra-customizable controller.

Sony unveiled the new DualSense Edge controller for the PS5 earlier this year, touting it as PlayStation’s first-ever high-performance ultra-customizable controller. The pro controller is set to launch in January, and ahead of its imminent release, Sony has released a new video in which the designers behind the controller talk about the process of creating it and improving upon the original DualSense.

As per the designers, carrying over the DualSense’s form factor as is into the Edge controller was a crucial, non-negotiable element of the process, which, of course, meant that fitting the added inputs and elements on it within the same form factor brought about some complications.

Along with that, Sony also consulted with various pro gamers, and set out to design a controller that would be highly customizable in a number of ways, allowing users to adjust aspects based on their specific needs, and based on which game they’re playing. That includes everything from the back buttons and the analog sticks to the triggers and the new Function buttons and more being adjustable in a variety of ways.

Meanwhile, new details are also revealed on how the PS5’s in-built UI will make all of that customization much easier and more efficient, with players being able to create multiple profiles with different presets. Check out the video below for more details.

The DualSense Edge will launch on January 26 for a price of $199.99. It’s been confirmed that its battery life will be “moderately shorter” than the original DualSense.
