Take-Two Will Continue to Support the Switch Beyond 2023 Despite Midnight Suns Cancellation

Marvel's Midnight Suns' Switch version was recently cancelled, but Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick said the company plans on continuing to support the platform.

Take-Two Interactive has maintained pretty solid support for the Nintendo Switch over the years, and has frequently published a variety of titles for the platform through its publishing labels, though with the console now in the seventh year of its lifecycle, it’s natural to wonder how much longer developers will be willing to keep working with its hardware, which, frankly, was underpowered even when the console first came out.

And with Marvel’s Midnight Suns’ planned Nintendo Switch port having recently been cancelled, those questions have emerged once again. However, it looks like Take-Two Interactive has no intentions of ending its support for the system just yet, with plans to keep releasing games for it even beyond 2023.

Speaking recently with GamesIndustry.biz, when asked about whether the company will continue supporting the Switch this late into its light, especially in the wake of Midnight Suns’ cancellation, CEO Strauss Zelnick said, “Yes, I think we’ll continue to support it.”

Of course, it’s worth keeping in mind that, this late into its life, the Switch likely doesn’t have long left in it as an active platform. Reports have also claimed that Nintendo is at work on a Switch successor that won’t be out until Spring 2024 “at the earliest”, so third party developers may very well jump over to Nintendo’s next platform in the relatively near future. Then again, given how massive the Switch’s userbase is, maybe they’ll want to keep supporting it until its successor hits a minimum sales threshold.
