Ubisoft recently confirmed that the long-in-development Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora would be showcased at its Ubisoft Forward event, and the company chose to open the show with a gameplay showcase.

Confirming a number of recently leaked details, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora’s debut gameplay trailer confirms that the game will see players playing as a Na’vi woman who was abducted by humans (and villain John Mercer) when she was a child, only to awaken 15 years later. She will have to reconnect with her people and culture and protect her home against human invaders.

Set in the western frontier of the planet of Pandora, the game will feature an original story, new locales, and more, with the gameplay trailer showing off many of those stunning vistas and offering glimpses of combat, taking to the skies with Ikrans, and more.

Avatar mastermind James Cameron himself also had a presence through a video message, where he spoke briefly about the game, its setting, and how it will expand the franchise’s universe, with a story that will “co-exist” with the movies.

Meanwhile, in addition to the trailer, Ubisoft also revealed a gameplay demonstration, offering new details on the story, gameplay, and more. The demo showcases flight traversal mechanics with an Ikran, which players will also be able to customize, while a number of unique and gorgeous biomes and settlements across the western frontier are also shown.

Players will also be able to ride land-based mounts, encounter a number of different tribes and clans, engage in combat against humans, take out RDA facilities, and more. Combat will allow players to master multiple styles, with a combination of Na’vi weapons and abilities, and human weaponry and training.

As players help Pandora heal, they’ll be able to gather resources from environments and craft unique items and consumables. Stealth and mounted (and aerial) combat will also be featured, while players will also be able to upgrade various skills through the game’s progression mechanics.

Meanwhile, as recent leaks claimed, the game will also allow players to play the full campaign in 2-player co-op.

A release date has also been announced for the game. Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora launches on December 7 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
