Sony Says it Has Internally Delayed “a Portion” of Upcoming First Party Titles

The three games under the PlayStation Studios banner that are officially set to launch this year are Marvel's Spider-Man 2, Helldivers 2, and Stellar Blade.

2023 hasn’t been nearly as stacked as last year was when it comes to first party PlayStation releases, and though there are currently a few games to look forward to on that front in the coming months, it looks like the schedule is going to be even lighter than originally intended.

In its recent consolidated fiscal report for Q1 (April-June) of FY 2023/24, Sony revealed (on slide 9) that it has delayed “a portion of upcoming first party titles” that were scheduled to launch in the current fiscal year (which ends on March 31 next year). Exactly how many games Sony is referring to when it says “a portion” is anyone’s guess, since the company hasn’t mentioned which titles have been delayed.

It’s safe to assume that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, which is due out on October 20, hasn’t been pushed out of the fiscal year. Beyond that, the games under the PlayStation Studios banner officially scheduled to launch between now and April next year are Stellar Blade and Helldivers 2, neither of which have yet been given official release dates (though Helldivers 2 is rumoured to be launching in October).

Of course, it’s also possible that a game that Sony hadn’t yet announced a release date for was hit by a delay- like, perhaps, Naughty Dog’s multiplayer The Last of Us game, which, according to recent reports, saw its development team being scaled back after a re-evaluation by Sony and Bungie.
