In July 2022, Play-Asia listed Square Enix’s SaGa Frontier 2 for an August release on PS4 and Nintendo Switch. Many assumed it was a re-release or remaster that went live by mistake before the official announcement, but the latter never happened.

In the 40th official Romancing SaGa Re;univerSe broadcast, series creator Akitoshi Kawazu didn’t address that particular listing. However, since SaGa Frontier 2 was celebrating its 25th anniversary, he did address the possibility of a remaster. As per Gematsu’s translation, this was not “a remaster announcement, so please wait a little longer for that.

“Honestly though, you won’t be disappointed if you wait, so you can rest assured. Please be patient.” It seemingly indicates that a remaster is in the pipeline, though an official announcement is a ways off.

SaGa Frontier 2 launched for PlayStation One in 1999 for Japan before coming to the West in 2000. It received critical praise for its non-linear gameplay, watercolor backdrops and soundtrack. Stay tuned for more updates on a potential remaster, or check out SaGa Frontier Remastered, based on its predecessor, here. The latter is available for PS4, PC, Nintendo Switch, iOS and Android and includes new content and quality-of-life features.
