Until Dawn_03

Until Dawn was the pinnacle for Supermassive Games and interactive horror titles when it launched in 2015. However, Ballistic Moon’s upcoming remaster is making interesting changes that could enhance the narrative.

As detailed on the PlayStation Blog, it’s reworking the prologue, giving more screen time to the Washingtons to “explore their close family bond and get to know them a little better.” Some scenes from the original have undergone reframing, providing more “context” around the prank, which creative director Neil McEwan hopes “enhances its emotional impact.”

As for collectibles, the original totems have new locations, while there are also new Hunger totems to find. The latter provides “a different kind of vision” than the others, though what this means is unknown. Players can also look forward to new areas where new interactions occur, providing “extra context and detail to the world of Until Dawn.”

The remaster also offers new accessibility settings, including an alternative to Don’t Move. It’s referred to as Stay Calm, and on top of a “different challenge,” it’s geared towards those using third-party devices without a gyroscope. How this works remains to be seen, so stay tuned for more gameplay in the coming weeks.

Until Dawn is available for PS5 and PC on October 8th. Head here for details on other improvements, like the new injury mask system and updated visuals.
