Destiny 2 The Edge of Fate

Things are far from rosy for Marathon, Bungie’s upcoming extraction shooter, especially after the art asset controversy and reports of morale in “free-fall.” However, Destiny 2 has also seen many challenges since its launch, especially with its monetization.

As it turns out, Bungie leadership was obsessed with monetizing the live service shooter. Former IGN journalist Destin Legarie spoke to former employees from the studio, as one alleged that a subscription model was pitched. However, staff would “vehemently shut down” the suggestion.

In another instance, some of the leadership were reportedly worried that the armor obtained from Trials of Osiris with its glow looked “too attractive” and would impact sales in the Eververse Store. Some staff were also reportedly “scolded” in meetings when it came to monetization.

Destiny 2 has changed direction significantly since The Final Shape saw fewer sales than Lightfall. It’s releasing two smaller expansions in a year, with The Edge of Fate coming in July. Renegades launches in December and takes inspiration from Star Wars. Head here for more details.
