Leveling up in FBC: Firebreak is simple enough, with a traditional XP grinding system. However, killing things is not the primary objective of the game, so accomplishing tasks and successfully completing jobs before extracting from the Jobsite will be your goal when farming.
This guide is everything you need to know about grinding for XP to quickly and efficiently level up both your main Rank and your Crisis Kits in FBC: Firebreak, as well as the best Requisitions and Research Perks to select early on.
Jobsites
There are currently five distinct Jobsites to choose from, with ‘Hot Fix’ being the simplest to hash out over and over again. Runs are under five minutes once you know what you are doing. Fix those fans and extract your way home in one piece.
Crisis Kits
The in-game term for a soft class system, the Crisis Kits are equipment sets designed to take on specific challenges at each Jobsite. Ideally, you will bring one of each on most jobs, though in some you may want to double up on one particular Crisis Kit to speed up certain tasks like repairing multiple machines.
On ‘Hot Fix’ you should bring one of each Crisis Kit: Fix and Jump to do the obvious, and Splash to cool off.
Active use of each Crisis Kit is required in order to level them up individually. Leveling Crisis Kits is how you unlock more Research Perk slots.
Bear in mind that you can swap out a Crisis Kit mid-mission at the Shelters should the need arise.
Corruption, Clearance and Threat Levels
These factors significantly impact difficulty (number of zones, number of enemies and their power level) but also the corresponding XP gains. Once you have grasped the basic mechanics of the jobs, raise the Clearance Level and apply Corruption to get increased XP and drops from runs.
For maximum results, you will absolutely need to run a Clearance Level of 3 with a Corrupted Item spawning, in order to acquire the most Research Samples, which are required for unlocking Research Perks. There are five distinct Research Samples to gather, one from each Jobsite.
- Resonant Globs: Found in any zone containing a Corrupted Item at the Frequency Shift jobsite.
- Achromatic Sand: Found in any zone containing a Corrupted Item at the Ground Control jobsite.
- Viscous Strips: Found in any zone containing a Corrupted Item at the Paper Chase jobsite.
- Whispering Ash: Found in any zone containing a Corrupted Item at the Hot Fix jobsite.
- Numbed Splinters: Found in any zone containing a Corrupted Item at the Freezer Duty jobsite.
Best Early Requisitions
Requisitions determine access to weapons and upgrades for each Crisis Kit, each of which will need to be unlocked by spending Lost Assets. The most critical Requisitions to unlock early include:
- Revolver Level 2: Upgrading the most versatile firearm in the game should be top priority
- Gunpowder Grenade: Access to any grenade is a high priority, but this one is good enough early on.
- Wrench Level 2: Lets the Fix Kit perform a high-speed charge forward
- Electro-Kinetic Charge Impactor Level 2: Lets the Jump Kit perform a short rocket jump of sorts
- Crank-Operated Fluidic Ejector Level 2: Lets the Splash Kit shoot smaller water globules at a higher rate of fire
- Machine Gun: Unlocking this beast of a rapid fire weapon will ease your progress through higher Clearance Level content
Best Research Perks
Research Perks are at the disposal of all Crisis Kits, and are unlocked using Lost Assets and Research Samples. With Resonant level making it possible to share perk effects, the best synergy would be a mix of the following Research Perks:
- Impact Rounds: Bullets have a chance to stagger. Reach Rank 29 to unlock.
- Jade Rounds: Bullets have a chance of returning to the barrel once fired. Reach Rank 31 to unlock.
- Pocket Dimensions: Extra ammo capacity. Reach Rank 37 to unlock.
- Influential: Larger resonance field. Reach Rank 41 to unlock.
- Murder Charges: Killing charges your parautility. Reach Rank 43 to unlock.
- Night Terrors: Chance to get back up when downed. Reach Rank 47 to unlock.
- Covered: Shields regenerate faster after you damage an enemy.
- Iron Liver: You become more resistant to harmful condition buildup.
That is everything on how to level up your main Rank as well as your Crisis Kits fast, and the best Requisitions and Research Perks to choose in FBC: Firebreak.
